Kacific and PhilTower Consortium Inc. Forge Strategic Alliance to Revolutionise Philippines’ Digital Infrastructure

Manila and Singapore, 20 October 2023 – PhilTower Consortium Inc., has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kacific to provide Mobile Backhaul, Fiber Backup, and connectivity as a service. This collaboration between the Philippines’s leading telecommunication tower company and Asia Pacific’s largest broadband satellite operator marks a significant step towards advancing the country’s digital transformation and revolutionising the telecommunications landscape.

By signing this MoU, Kacific and PhilTower will work together to accelerate the expansion of critical digital networks and significantly improve network availability across the Philippines.

Using powerful Ka-band satellite technology, Kacific offers a broad portfolio of services that empower telecom operators’ growth and expansion.

    • Kacific Mobile Backhaul allows operators to meet coverage demand in remote areas and data demand in congested urban areas. Operators can flexibly share bandwidth between sites, ensuring they can adapt to changing needs.
    • Kacific Fiber Backup is a game-changer for telecom operators, government agencies and large enterprises that need to stay connected 24-7, helping them avoid costly service outages and protecting their networks with a secure, reliable backup solution.

In today’s landscape, the availability and accessibility of fibre-optic networks remain inconsistent, with 70% of barangays in the Philippines lacking access to fibre-optic cables. Kacific is at the forefront of bridging these connectivity gaps. By leveraging Kacific connectivity at PhilTower sites, telecom operators can substantially improve the availability and reliability in their network connections.

Kacific – dedicated to supporting governments’ connectivity initiatives
Kacific’s commitment to supporting governments in transforming connectivity transcends borders, impacting 25 markets where the company operates. In Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, Kacific partners with telecom operators like Telkomsel and Vodafone PNG to offer Mobile Backhaul, addressing the growing demand for data connectivity in rural Indonesia and narrowing the digital divide in Papua New Guinea. Kacific plays a central role in the region’s largest mobile backhaul network, underscoring its dedication to bridging connectivity gaps and delivering innovative solutions.

In the Philippines, Kacific has connected over 2,000 businesses dispersed across many of the 7,640 islands that make up the archipelago, using its geostationary satellite, Kacific1. Its distinct advantage lies in a strong local presence bolstered by a network of more than 150 distributors. Supported by ISP partners, installers, and an experienced on-ground team, Kacific consistently delivers high-speed connectivity projects, including connecting 438 Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) sites in September 2023 in North Luzon, as part of DICT’s National Broadband Plan.
